008 Board Cannot Access Extensions 2

The other day one of my extenstions went out. The next day 4 more did the same. I replaced board, but no luck. I am on release 7 of a Merlin System. Do I need to reprogram or how do I get it to release these extenstions. They all ring busy.

Unplug ALL CORDS from this Board.

Power the system DOWN and then back up.

Take a KNOWN WORKING PHONE back to the control unit and test each port.

I suspect you will find that each port works ok.

NOW, One at a time, re-plugin the CORDS and test each phone.

I suspect you will find that one PHONE (OR WIRE TO THAT PHONE) will cause the board to fail.

When you figure out which phone/cord does that, then you will know who your "BAD BOY" is.

At least that's my theory......

It worked for a little bit. I had already replaced the board. I think it may have something to do with the contactors or back plane, but thanks for eliminating possibilities for me.

Your theory was right. I was just going to fast. Now it's eliminating what's causing this phone to short out the system. You are the man!!!!

What type of phone is it? If it is an older MLX set, it might have a bad membrane. They can cause all kinds of flukey system problems when they start to go.

It is a very old one, it could be time to look for a newer system.

Not necessarily. The Merlin Legend is a nice system. Replacing it could be very costly. The phones can be repaired. Try

They do a good job and are relatively inexpensive.
By the way, if you are buying more sets for the system, always buy the "DP" sets or buy only from a reputable vendor that replaces all of the keypad membranes. People sell old MLX phones on e-bay with bad membranes.
