I think if you setup a user initiated backup in scheduled task or cron to run every hour it will work. That is one thing that would be nice if NBU had the option to do minutes also since in your case the next backup will only run after one hour of the completion of the last backup in the policy.

What volume pool did the media go into after being added to the robot? What do you have the drive type set to (HCART or HCART2)? What is the media type (HCART or HCART2)?

It is possible, but a restore could take forever. I would suggest doing sythetic fulls to void ever having to do fulls on it again.
