The point system is new to me and I've configured a 7213 VXR. If I exceed the point system on either side of the router does the router become unstable due to high CPU, DDRAM utilization? Are the point system standard on all Cisco routers? Where can I find more info on it? I usually stick in a...
You have to enter in the intilization strings for autoanswer into the modem. Hook the modem to the console port on the router (DB25-RJ45). Cisco has a technotes on How to.. Thanks,

Back to eurobadger's posting. I read somewhere that "setting the bandwidth on an interface has nothing to do with the actual link speed. Rather, it provides the value that some routing protocols use in calculating routing metrics. The default bandwidth is 1.544mps, which is a T1...
Let me get this straight, all tracert will exit my local default gateway, then the next hop will be the entry point for the next router's s0 interface, then the next router's s0 interface, and so on. The last IP address on my tracrt will be the host's ip address.

Going back to the straight and x-over cable. How do u know when to use a straight vs a x-over? I always thought that if you are conneting from NIC to NIC then it would be a x-over. Also, wit his switch is running 100mbps couln't he just buy a 100mbps transciever?
Thanks,
Danielle
Like the message states, No local DNS. If you are running Win2k domain controllers then you will need a local DNS. Local DNS has several benefits including (1) Faster web access. (2) Reduce DNS traffic through your WAN link. Some companies do all their web resolution from an outside DNS source...
Sixthsense is correct. Try sniffing the card to see what type of packets are transversing the card. Also run performace monitor to trace memory, processor, and disk bottlenecks. From the client end, you may want to configure the application to connect to the server through IP broadcast instead...
1. Check DHCP for avaliable address pool.
2. Reconcile your pool of IP address.
3. Check the Event View for DHCP error messages.
4. Sniff the switch for any broadcast loops.

Danielle
