    Make sure that after you do the above and pull the empty text to the place when you need it, right click on the empty test and select move -> to back. If you do not do this, alternate rows are colored but the data would not be visible. -Raj

    Dave, I did a back ground for the text object but the rows are not visible. I added the formula in the background formula without checking the box but it hides the rows alternatively with the asked color. Thanks a lot, Raj.
