I'd like to log users off automatically

Thanks guys, I think I will download the screensaver until I find something they can't change. Also, doesn't an admin or the originally logged in user have to log in to get out of darraagl's method? Or can anyone logg in (this is a necessity ...)Thanks Again.

I'd like to log users off automatically

I am setting up a Windows 2000 computer to be used by 5 roommates. To help protect everyones privacy I would like to automatically log each person off after a set amount of inactivity (perhaps a screensaver setup?). Can anyone tell me the best way to go about this? I know I can't use the default...

    Continuous beeping at boot

Hmmm... I had thought all of the codes were sets of 3 or 4 beeps, after looking at BIOS central it seems that perhaps it is a memory error. I'll try this tonight when I get home, thanks.

    Continuous beeping at boot

Sometimes (say 30%) when I power up my computer (cold or warm boot) everything spins up but before I can get a video card signal I get a continuous stream of long beeps. The system halts there and just continues to emit the long beeps. All the beeps are the same length and they do not stop till...

Well guys, I hate to start a new th

NWLink is for the IPX support (network gaming of Starcraft don't ya know ). Anyway, both computers use FAT32 for the drives. As for WinME, it wasn't my choice but my brothers. I sometimes bring in other computers and the WinME machine works fine with other Win98, ME and XP machines. I just can't...

Well guys, I hate to start a new thread but after searching the forums I still haven't found my answer. If anyone knows of a thread that answers this, please just point me to it. So here it is, I have 2 computers, one running Win2k pro and one running Win ME. They are connected over a hub...

    Constant rebooting

yep, tried it myself. I have been checking for additional updates at least every 3 days since installing XP some months ago. I also made sure I hade the latest drivers for all of my hardware (which I also check on a regular basis ...). To be honest I wouldn't even come here looking for an answer...

    Constant rebooting

No, in most cases this is not a motherboard problem, DDR RAM problem or Driver problem. It is a problem in Windows XP. Let me explain. I am running an ASUS A7V133 MB with 512MB SDRAM and an older Hercules Prophet GeForce 2MX card (pre- MX 200/400). This setup runs perfectly in Windows 2000 (and...

VIA chipsets & WinXP, what's the story?

Direct X would only be an issue if there were seperate versions of it for different versioins of windows, however DirectX 8.1 is the same for Win2000 and WinXP. Stands to reason if it works in Win2000 it is fine. I my self dual boot into Win2k Pro and WinXP Pro. In WinXp I get BSOD's all the...

VIA chipsets & WinXP, what's the story?

Well, I tried rjkrash's idea and it seemed to work for a while, till 30 minutes ago my computer rebooted again. It does seem to have reduced the frequency though. Well, guess I will keep searching, maybe when NVidia releases its new drivers for the Geforce 4 it will include a solution...

VIA chipsets & WinXP, what's the story?

hmm... I'm looking at MikeCSr's specs and wondering if this is a northbriddge problem. with MikeCSr running an AMD 761 northbridge he has no errors, whereas I suspect most of us are running VIA northbridges ... As for me I get these errors a lot to, BSOD, NV4_disp.dll, etc, etc. AMD Thunderbird...

    WinXP lost a HDD?

Yeah, I tried for almost 16 hours to figure it out. Nothing worked and I finally had to just move all the data off from inside Windows ME and then Fdisk and reformat it. seems to be working fine again but I shour would like to know what happened! :-(

PC Reboots under XP on its own

What hardware are you using? Specifically mobo and video card? There have been a lot of problems with people using VIA chipsets and NVidia Videocards getting random reboots in WinXP. I have heard a rumor about 26.50 drivers comming out from NVidia that fix the problem but nothing definate.

    WinXP lost a HDD?

I have been running a dual boot of Windows XP and ME for about a week. Today, Windows XP crashed (the infamous Nv4_disp.dll BSOD) After XP recovered and rebooted my second HDD showed up incorrectly. Still drive D but the name was wrong and XP said the file format was "RAW", needing to...

    Constant rebooting

FoxPacific, this is, unfortunately, a common problem for people with NVidia based video cards, VIA chipsets and Windows XP. It plagues me too with 512MB RAM on an ASUS A7V133 mobo and a GeForce 2MX video card. If you check the VIA forums (http://forums.viaarena.com/categories.cfm?catid=13) and a...

A network connection window comes up every time I turn on my computer

OK everyone, this is really, really EASY. Open AIM. Go to the preferences. Choose the "Sign On/Off" option. At the top you have 3 options you can check. 1: save password 2: Automatically sign on when AIM starts and 3: Start AIM when Windows Starts. If options 2 and 3 are checked then...
