I've removed the hard drive and checked it in my desktop and it ran fine checked it with diagnostics, it came through ok.
I tried the multiple reboot but quit after 5 tries, then ran the test and it started right up. By the way I don't have to finish the test, I can cancel it after a minute and...
I think it's ok but don't know for sure, Laptop is less than 1 yr old and didn't open it. Warrantee and the fact I'm not sure about the internals of a laptop.

There is another program for drive checking, called ScanRite. I bought my copy a few years age. It does everything scandisk is supposed to do and more. It even reclaims sectors that other programs falsely label as bad.

Thanks for the suggestion but, as soon as I got the machine I wiped the hard drive, then re-partitioned/formatted it as the previous owner had a lot of stuff on it.

One of my friends was given a P75 computer and brought it to me for assistance and I need to confirm a theory. There are 2 quirks with it:
1 it takes about 2 minutes to find and start reading the hard drive.
2 There is a mysterious D drive with nothing on it. BTW there is only 1 drive and 1...

Just to confirm I will need a router, I was thinking along the line of installing firewall software to the "Primary" computer then adding a second NIC with a hub going to the other comps. (trying to keep it inexpensive)

Have you checked the brightness settings in the BIOS? If I recall, there is a section that involves power management and screen brightness is in there.
