My HP Pavillion 2.8 P4 t741uk. refuses to power down properly. XP closes, monitor switches off, but all fans stay on regardless of the time left for. The HD light glows solid orange despite the disc not actually spinning, I've checked all the obvious power settings in windows, checked bios for...
I've got an HP P4 2.8 with 512mb, i want to upgrade from my 64mb shared on board graphics, i don't really need fx for games, just s-video output and input.
Does memory matter much as i only run 1280x1024 tops?
I'm not really bothered about dvi, because i love CRT's.
I'm baffled by the choice...
I have a Hewlett Packard Pavilion 741uk Desktop PC and i need to know what system board it uses to update the BIOS. Where can i get this info? I can see nothing on the board itself, and windows tells me very little as well. Where can i find out? I would contact HP but phone line is always...
I don't think your 98se machine will do the job, stick xp on your se machine with partition magic. Set the 60gig as slave, boot in safe mode with new xp install and change permissions to read all by all users, and you should be able to recover your stuff. Worked for me, but drive wasn't sick.
Get a usb 2.5HD adapter, they are only about £9-00 or US$1. Start windows in safe mode and change all the privaledges so anyone can read the disk, this will elimante file visibity problems that can occur with user accounts on the external drive.

Checked USB settings in BIOS, fiddled with all the settings and still no joy. Its a shame as the system - once running, is flawless, i've never had such a stable machine, it just won't turn off. Could it be a badly connected motherboard cables or cheapo chinese PSU.
Can't find a bios update either, i tried installing origionals off Hewlett Packard site, they did nothing, e-mailed their tech support and they tried to fob me off with deleting your shutdown sounds and try holding the power button. Maybe i'll fabricate a power switch for 3.5in drive bay that...
Cheers guys, have checked BIOS and it is set to shutdown - rather than standby, and the os does fully close. USB is still active as well as HD light on my external drive flickers at 30 second intervals. Wierd. Maybe a firmware update is the only answer. All i'm really worried about is if it...
I have a P4 2.8ghz HP Pavillion system running XP home, The probelem being is when i go to shut down the OS closes the monitor switches itself off but the HD light stays on and glows yellow despite the disk not actually spinning, also the processor fan and PSU fan stay on and refuse to switch...
