Did you try the drive on both controllers?
What is the boot sequence set to in the BIOS setup? Maybe it is looking at the secondary drive first.
PC Load Letter?!
Just browsing here, but it sounds like a simple fix. I would have to look it up in my references because I don't yet have XP on my computers, but here is the XP procedure as I remember it. I don't believe that XP comes with fdisk, and if you are not familiar with hard drive architecture and file...
I have decided to bite the bullet and just pay the outrageous $300 bones when I get back stateside. I have had some A+ training, and I am confident that I can support myself as far as installation, backup and recovery, but I know enough to realize the value of Microsoft support. I would also...
Linney,
I am worried about compatibility issues with the hardware and applications that I would be purchasing in the US. I live in the US. I was just wondering if there were compatibility issues between US and UK versions. I know that it will not stop working when I get back.
Thanks,

I am currently in Germany and I have found a copy of Windows XP Professional for 130 Euros, which is around $170 right now. This is an OEM version. I have not yet purchased it because I wanted to do a little research on whether or not I will run into problems with using the UK version in the US...
All good points. Thanks everyone! This is becoming my new passion, and from reading your comments, I think I will just wait and buy the good stuff and stop trying to be such a cheap a##. I would like to build it myself though, like most of you said, to be sure that only quality parts are used...
ceh4702,
I would like to get XP Pro because I plan to do some home networking. I am also studying Computer Science, and a lot of my classes are beginning to reference Windows XP (Home and Pro). I would like to have the best of the two so that I have full access to all of the capabilities of XP...
Bad,
I'm guessing that you meant 2.8Ghz. Good point cdlvj, where did you get the parts Ben? I am going to Germany on vacation soon. Was it Web-based, or brick and mortar? Normally Celeron is a little cheaper, but I can't seem to get under $300 even using what parts I can from my old Gateway...
Does anyone know how to get discounts on hardware and software that make it economically feasible to build your own systems? Is this a vendor only perk? I have been looking on sites like compgeeks, and ebay, but if I built the system I want at those prices, I might as well get a Dell. I have...
Another thing you should consider instead of just going for a good brand name is the amount of draw your particular system has. You should total up the draw that all of your components are going to put on your power supply, and purchase a new power supply that will meet your needs.
