What I'm looking for is to report CRC errors on tapes that have been run on my nightly backups. The errors are available in the deamon.log if you scan the file (which is fairly large). I was hoping that I could automate the report running it against my last night’s backup in my 600 slot ATL and...
I’m doing staging / cloning from tape, so the GUI staging interface won’t work. I need the output for sumflag, ssflag for my script. I didn’t see what are the different outputs and their mean in the commands reference guide.
Does anyone know where I can get all the subcommand for mminfo (i.e. pssid, sumflag, ssflag variants) and what those variants’ mean? I’m trying to develop a cloning / staging script and need to know how to sort the ssid’s. The command reference guide is very vague regarding some of its...
Unfortunately I don’t backup to disk, I have 6.5 TB of nightly backups to complete. I’ve think I have found the optimal setting client 4/device 6/server 48. It seems from everything I found that these setting are best tuned by trail and error. You would think there would be some tools to help...
The server is not taxed, and adding new hardware is not an option; I am looking to adjust settings in Networker to get the optimal performance. Most of the guidelines are very fag
Are there any articles or advice on adjusting Networker to get a balance performance between backup and cloning? I’ve read thru the Tek Tip threads, Networker Performance Tuning everything leans to onside or the other. Either you get backup performance and cloning is slow or visa versa.
My...
If it is a NIC setting you will see packet errors at your network switch. If the server has a heavy IP traffic it should show the symptoms during non-backup activity.
Try turning off TRU on the backup server. This will flood the scsi chsin if not turned off http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;842411
Add all the client and backup server aliases to the host file in c:windows\system32\drivers\etc. This should resolve any DNS problems
You my want to conceder this way of tape management:
Create pools based upon ssid retention. For example 30-day pool, 90-day pool, then divide your clients in the groups by pools. Use a general labeling systems (i.e. 100000 for a barcode tapes). Let Networker manage the volume bar codes and...
Here are some things to check (which you might have already):
- update your tape drive and HBA drivers
- validate that the tapes are good, my have a batch of bad tapes, this can be done through scanner (4 hours per tape, so only do a couple)
- w2k3 needs a reg heck to turn off TRU (test unit...
You can run (inquire) to view your current SCSI binding. It a good idea to keep this documented somewhere, in case you have to change out an HBA card.
btw - there is a bug issues in W2K3 TUR floods to occur on SCSI and Fibre attached devices. This is similar to a Denial of Service attack on an...
The DX100 is a virtual tape library (it looks like a DLT ATL - tape). Networker doesn’t support staging from tape to tape via GUI. So the script is in the email string is what I had in mind.
I have the following system: Network 7.11 on a W2k server, Quantum DX100 virtual ATL and a PX720 physical ATL.
I would like to stage save sets from tape (DX100) to tape (PX720). Does anyone have a good method (script) that I could use?
