    Thanks Paul - I've tried using another ISP - same error - I;ve tried using different email software - same error. I am going to try changing the modem lead and possibly change the modem - could be an error with the modem?

    Also I think it is odd that I can receive email form freeserve form their pop server but I cannot send any? Outlook just says "finding host" and then it comes up with the error message.

    I've chhecked and double checked all of the smtp settings and they are all correct - using freeserve. smtp.freeserve.net I've even reinstalled all the settings.

    When I go to send emails I get the error message no, socket error 10060, error number 0x800CCCOE I have tried reinstalling all the newtwork tools - I have removed and reinstalled Outlook Express and I have tried using Eudora and still get the same message any ideas?
