    prohibit users from mapping drives

Also forgot to mention that this might not keep them from going to a command window and mapping the drive that way, (ex. Net use f: \\yourserver\yourshare) I haven't tested that out as most of the machines I've worked with have access to nothing except the programs they have installed.

    prohibit users from mapping drives

You can drill down to the group policy under a specific group (like the one you created in thread http://tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1054677&page=1) and go down to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and Windows Explorer. Look in the list in the right pane and...

    Links to Backup Plans/strategies

Thanks alot guys, you have been a great help... Sorry for the late reply. It seems if anything could break on the servers, it has. = Right now we're going to do Full backups on the weekends and then Differentials during the week with a 12 week tape rotation. Every fourth week a full set will...

    Reset NT local Admin Password

With that new virus spreading yesterday we had a big task of making sure all of the workstations were patched here. On about 6 NT workstations, after loading the NT security bundle from microsoft they wouldn't allow any login. Since the Network team of a newer group and these are old machines...

    Maximum number of mailboxes?

Our system is a sort of strange configuration which is currently being changed. We have four boxes. They are all Compaq ML370's dual pentium III 833's with 2Gb Ram each. Two are in a failover cluster linking to a XIOtech Magnitude SANS box and handle the mailboxes and public folders. One is...

    Maximum number of mailboxes?

Thanks, this helps a lot. Since those were tests using simulated users, let me ask you guys another question. What's the largest number of real-world mailboxes do you guys have on an Exchange 5.5 server? -Robo +++If we don't look busy, it's because we did it right the first time.+++

    Maximum number of mailboxes?

This may be a dumb question, but it was brought up by one of the guys here. Is there a maximum number of mailboxes allowed within an exchange 5.5 server? Thanks, Robo +++If we don't look busy, it's because we did it right the first time.+++

What flavor of Linux should I use....

Yeah, I sure did... I found a fix to make the 3com work, but of course that was after I switched the 3COM with an Intel PRO/100 PCMCIA card. The site http://www.linux-laptop.net/ had a lot of information on setting up linux on that laptop and I think that's where it also said what changes...

Way to see when a workstation was removed from domain?

We have a user that swears that a power outage caused his workstation to remove itself from the domain and add itself to a workgroup (Yeah I know it's a PFM or ID10T error with them not wanting to get in trouble. :) ) I fixed the issue and now I want to know if there is a way to find out when...

    Abnormal termination of internet access?

Ok I may be able to give all of you some info. I'm running two different setups getting out on a cable modem. 1 is with a Linksys Cable-router and the other is with a Sonic Wall Pro. I had similar problems with this too also when I first got the cable connection using Zone Alarm on my PC...

What flavor of Linux should I use....

Thanks for the help.. I've got RedHat 7.1 installed and it worked with 1024x768. The only problem I'm having now is getting it to work with my 3Com 3C575-TX Fast EtherLink XL. It look like it sees it but when it starts it fails during startup when it loads the NIC.

    Telnet for Windows CE 1.0

I haven't found any Telnet programs that will work in CE ver 1. However, though the forums on here I was able to use my link cable and just direct connect to the switch and router through the console port and then if needed I just telnet to any of the other routers and switches in the company...

No link lights when connecting 2 switches

Are you using a Cross-over cable to link the two switches? Also there are no other link cables between the two either? If you have more that one connected before you config the switch for it, it will shut down one of the links to prevent packet storms.

    Cat 2900XL - Clustering

I may be wrong but clustering your switches is to make management easier even if the switches are in different locations. It isn't for redundancy. The option of making one a backup is so if the command switch fails the backup still have the configuration data. You use the web interface on the...
