o jeez. never mind. it's always so ridiculously obvious once it's obvious. for anyone else who gets confused about this, it's under type, show/hide hidden characters. so embarassing.- alisonsrazor

pound sign (also known as number sign, hash mark)
all of a sudden it's showing up whenever i type in text (or copy text from another page)... it's probably something stupid like i accidently chose to view something previously unseen, and if it doesn't print than i'm fine, but i don't want to find out that it means "ignore this whole page"...- alisonsrazor
