I have tried several combinations of slave 0 and 1 device settings, cables, uninstalling and mking sure bios says nothing is there then reconnecting and installing, etc. I'm convinced it is not a cable/connections issue. Lite-On CDRW LTR-48246S Only recognized as CD-ROM
Thanks for the tip on the free utility. It worked nice. Here is what is has for my cdrw with the cd rom drive removed. LITE-ON LTR-48246S [CD-ROM drive] Not being familiar with the tool, it looks like it sees it as a CDROM only and not a CDRW. That is what my HP burn software and NERO...- johndurham

Lite-On CDRW LTR-48246S Only recognized as CD-ROM
Windows 2000 SP4 on HP PIII 733 MHz. I bought a surplus CD-RW to replace a HP that worked until the machine got warm and then stopped. The new drive works fine for days as CD-ROM but my burner software doesn't recognize it as a CD-RW. Device manager lists the manufacturer as standard cd-rom...- johndurham
