It's a pretty easy job (1/2 -1 hour) but there are a couple of things to watch out for. You can get a parts diagram at Xerox's website to follow along with the description, but hopefully it won't be strictly necessary. I've done this for a Phaser 860 but it should be essentially the same with...
We once had similar symptoms in that the paper would partially exit the rear and then get pulled back into the printer. I think we were also getting a variety of error messages.
I'll second ifixprinters recommendation to check the sensors in the paper path. Specifically, our problem turned out...
Service Manual says: "The thermistor in the right jet stack appears to be open. Check the printhead cabling. Replace the printhead."
Sorry I had to include that last part but that's what it says. Hopefully it's the cabling.
Jim
It displays this message consistently 1 min 15 secs after turning it on. If you try to print before this time has elapsed (even just a few letters of text), it says it's printing but nothing happens.
The carriage itself moves across the width of the printer (and back) during initialization...
When you get phantom paper jams, it's likely that one of the sensor flags is damaged or binding. We encountered a similar problem which turned out to be a physically broken drum/paper heater exit sensor, except the paper generally came out farther than yours is doing.
First I would make sure...
Replacing the cam followers and maintenance clutch is very easy, but there's a little caveat with regard to the clutch.
When you remove the maintenance drawer you will see the cam followers mounted to the inside of the frame (one on each side) just underneath where the lift pins were located...
He means that you probably need to replace the drawer by itself without changing the roller and page counter chip. The service manual recommends changing the drawer when the lift pins are worn a millimeter deep. However it also says in another section that the real criteria is whether or not the...
Thanks for the remarks Tom, but I'm sorry you didn't get any satisfaction after doing all of that.
I hope I don't cause you any more wasted effort, but I'll throw this out as a possibility: perhaps the drum temperature sensor is dirty or not functioning correctly. On April 29, 2004 Marty5261...
Here's a description of how to change the bulbs, which is not a difficult job. We have a Phaser 860 which is virtually identical to your 850, but it's possible that there are some minor differences.
-Remove the right and left covers (two screws each, one in front behind the access door, and one...
It can be a defective drum maintenance clutch, worn lift
pins on the maintenance drawer, or, possibly the y-axis
(drum) motor shorting out momentarily (see my reply to
pcmastercbs for more on this). Good luck.
If the fault occurs mainly when printing multiple pages and
the drum maintenance shaft seems to behave in exactly the
same way whether or not a fault is flagged, the problem may
be related to a buildup of commutator brush material on,in
and around the y-axis (drum) motor and its leads.
In...
