There were no mail profiles other than the one i setup for sql, however I updated the bios on the server on Sat and it seems OK now!! God knows why but I can see the profile and it has tested successfully. Thanks very musch for you assistance.
Outlook is set to be the default mail client. SQLSERVER is running under the administrator account, the mail profile has been created under the same account and works. The server has been re-started several times.

Thanks again, sorry for confusion I have replaced the SQL login (in original post) with the administrator login. Everything looks fine regarding services starting, could it be a problem with the MAPI Profile?
Cheers again, If I look in the services list MSSQLSERVER is running under .\Administrator, I am logged on as SERVER001\administrator. I have not configured this as a domain , the server exists as part of my workgroup. Any help most appreciated.
