I would guess any one of several big or small problems:
-broken, loose or derailed belt
-gear striped on the shaft, gear with broken teeth or gears "hopped" out of synch
-electric clutch burned out, off anchor or disconnected
-broken cam or cam cage (this would be easy to see if true)...
