I uninstalled Live Update. The uninstall utility may give an error message not allowing the uninstall. I had to manualy delete files in the Symantec Live update folder, reboot then finish the uninstall. This may be a problem with Nortons newer version. I never had similar problems with...

I had the same problem. Turned out my virsus scan was running live update in the background causing the same problem. Live update was running even though an internet connection was not established. Anything similar this could cause this type of problem.
