If anyone could help me out, I would be IMMENSELY grateful!
I'm not a networking expert by any means, know just enough to be fairly dangerous, but I take care of the network for our church and need some help. Our old server finally gave up the ghost and I got another to replace it...
Typically, with a Dell, you'll be limited to upgrading the RAM. Be sure to check the spec's for max RAM configuration before spending money on something you can't use. Very few of the MB's I've seen will let you upgrade the CPU.
Try removing the RAM one stick at a time and see if it boots. I've had bad RAM chips show up in this same way. If it boots with one chip in and doesn't with the other, then you've found the bad one. Also, you may need to vary slots as the slot can go bad just as well as the chip that's in it...
I had the same issue with my wife's new notebook with Vista. Look for a setting that tells the machine you are in a trusted network. For some reason, MS decided to hide this setting and it gives me fits every time I set up a machine with Vista. Reply if you have trouble finding the switch and...
I can't tell you the specific processors, but I did a benchmark to compare a Dell laptop with the AMD processor to a dual core Intel processor a couple of weeks ago and the indication was the Intel of approximately the same speed was running about 3-1/2 times faster than the AMD. The AMD...
Our company went to Dell computers nationwide about 10 years ago and I fought it tooth and nail at the time. After about a year, I wouldn't go any other way. I switched everything at our church to Dell, our kids to Dell, friends, etc. -- never a bad experience. I had a laptop I use for work...
Well, I did this to myself, but I really need some help.
We just merged with another church and one of their staff persons brought his desktop to our building for me to put on our network. They were using DOMAIN1 at their old building and I wanted to put them into our DOMAIN2 but I didn't want...
Hint for the future: A good place to start with that sort of issue in a Dell laptop is to reseat the memory. Also, I have had experiences where one of the RAM chips was bad and did the same thing. Glad to hear you got it going.
I agree - this is the same setup I am using at our church building. I even went so far as to put an extension in the data closet that uses the fax line for voice if I need it, but be sure to use the filter. Be sure to properly protect all the devices for surge - it's a big problem with...
My experience has always been if the memory is not found behind one of the doors underneath the computer, it is located under the keyboard. Some machines locate the basic memory (DIMM1) under the keyboard and the extended memory (DIMM2) behind the door in back. Be sure to check out EXACTLY...
Are you using Roxio EZCD Creator? If so, what version? When I upgraded to Ver 7.0, it stopped recongnizing my CDRW and my DVDRW drives. Had to go back down to Ver 6.0 to get it working again. Good old Roxio!
You're going to think I'm crazy for asking, but have you checked the devices with another USB cable to be sure the one you are using is good? Sorry if that's a dumb question.
Thanks for the pointer, Tony -
It was the same issue - ths person having it had the Share to Web software installed, but his problem was with Office. I since found out that while it appeared to fix the problem, it only somewhat fixed the problem. He can now access files through Word and...
I just encountered this exact problem with one of the computers I take care of for my church. Rather than uninstalling the security update, you can also do a repair to the Office install and it fixes the issue.
Just a thought, but try repairing office instead of uninstalling and reinstalling. To do this, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and click on MS Office. You should see an option to either remove the software or repair it -- choose repair. You will probably need the CD handy when you...
I would suggest you do a system restore back to before you installed the software in question. In case you don't know how to do this:
1. Click on Start and choose Accessories, then System Tools and System Restore
2. Follow the instructions on screen and select a date for restore prior to...
Thanks to everyone. That's about what I figured, I just wasn't sure how to determine if they had deteriorated, but it sounds like that's the issue. We are moving to a new building in 6 months, so I may not worry about it. To make things even better, I think the guy who pulled the original...
