I have just had the same problem after replacing a CD drive. Just will not boot from hard drive after reading the drives installed it stops. Will boot OK if XP CD put in.

While there have been many answers here suggesting mutiple tweeks, I must I feel be a tad brutal and say that in my opinion CCarson is just expecting to much from a Celeron 1.7 processor. With all that is required by you it seems your only option is to upgrade your processor.
My hard drive has partitions and has win98 and winXP set for login but the black login screen still shows the XP setup choice. How can I remove this? Where is this info kept?
