    grub.conf

The problem has been solved by running /sbin/grub-install , guess the MBR must have been corrupted.

    grub.conf

No, grub for sure. I have upgraded all the compute nodes on my cluster and they booted fine with the new kernel, using the updated grub.conf file. It's just the headnode that is having a problem.

    grub.conf

I have installed a new kernel and updated the grub.conf file, but when the machine is rebooted I do not see the new entry. For good measure I copied some of the existing entries in the grub.conf file; same result I just see the original 3 entries before my edit. Any clues as to what might be...

    Tape Drive Addresses

Hi, I have a machine with a total of 5 tape drives ( 2 DLT, 2 8mm and a 4mm). Is there any script or command that will tell me which /dev/rmt/some-number refers to one of the drives. At the moment I am resorting to inserting a tape and then using the mt -f /dev/rmt/X status ( X being a number...

    .forward for sendmail

I have upgraded my machine from Solaris 2.6 to 2.8 and now find that the sendmail does not honour the contents of the .forward file. Checked the permissions on the .forward and they are readable by the owner only. Does anyone have any suggestions or words of wisdom to resolve this problem...

    blank volume labels

Thanks to everone who responded. The problem turned out to be a compatable issue on the size of the barcodes. Our existing barcodes had a height of .2 of a inch, unfotunately the Qualstar 6460 has a minimum size requirement of .4 of an inch. Once we put a test barcode it was able to read it and...

    blank volume labels

RedFoxFan, The problem arises when I label the tapes, the existing label is wiped out and set to a blank value. This happens on all the different tapes I have tried to label. The other interesting thing is when I do a nsrjb -C after the label process, the barcode value has disappeared for that slot.

    blank volume labels

Thanks for the response. 1) Nan, The problem is that when I label the tape it sets it to value of blank instaed of the same name as the barcode. So when it comes to label the next tape it complains about duplicate name ( the name being a value of blank ). 2) Jim, While the idea of changing...

    blank volume labels

Hi, I have just installed a Qualstar 6460 unit with 3 DLT8000 drives, the server (Solaris) is running Networker 6.0.1 Build 174. I can do inventory on all the tapes but as soon as I try to label the tapes the existing volume name is set to blank. The jukebox was set to use the same volume name...
