Thought that but no other user with the same problem. After closing the open vbs files via the server in computer management, the pc is restarted and works fine after that.

Same thing again. Same PC, same scenario. PC locks up when the user has logged on and stops on the background screen. If you clear the vbs files from the server and then restart, all is then fine. Those same scripts can be run from the PC, and are fine and complete as expected.

System Restore does not work and the system readiness tool just sits there when it states it is installing the update for 2/3 hours without doing anything.

Fixed it. AVG driver was the culprit. Booted in using the Recovery Console and renamed the AVG folder in system32/drivers and voila, everything is working. I checked and the folder showed a modified date of the saturday morning. Thanks Kris
