I appreciate the alternate suggestion. I will look into it, but in this case the browser works fine for a few minutes then stops returning pages. If it was a winsock issue I would think the browser wouldn't work at all.

I did. Before I ran the first scan I disabled Recovery, closed all applications, and disabled the network connection. I rebooting I performed the same steps for the second scan. Again I rebooted and performed the same steps for the spyware scan. The system is clean.
I'm not sure if this is a one of a kind issue. IE6 (on XP Home) stops responding after a couple of minutes. There was a virus on the system but it's been cleaned. I thought there might be some corruption with IE but after re-installing it still fails.
I have not uninstalled it completely yet...
