The port for PPTP is 1723 and you also need to allow GRE protocol to be forwarded through the firewall.
I'm a bit confused by chicagotechnet's comments. My understanding is that everything required for a VPN connection was contained within the PPTP tunnel. What I've read on internet firewalls...
Point taken. There are a lot of windoze issues in my post.
But look at it from the Linux p.o.v., can RH9 running samba 2.2.7 join a win 2003 domain as is, or will this require significant changes/upgrades to the samba setup?
I'll also post in the Samba forum. Duh!
thanks.
Thanks Peter,
You're correct: 2003 seems to accept the Linux DNS just fine!
I've attached the 2003 server to our LAN but created a new domain with it as the PDC. So now the same phyical LAN ahs two domains running over it: the NT and the 2003. I took 1 XP and 1 win98 workstation and had them...
I've currently got 2 RH9 servers w/ Samba 2.2.7 running as members of a WinNT 4 domain. I'm in the process of setting up a new Win2003 server as a domain controller - I assume that means Active Directory. NT machine will be retired.
Can my current version of Samba join the 2003 domain...
We have a network of 30 users that was set up about 8 years ago with a single WinNT 4.0 server handling everthing. Over the years I've added a couple of Linux servers which has taken over most things from the NT box: file serving, email, intranet, home directories, database, network backup. The...

Anyone have experience with associative dimensions going wacky in a drawing with many xrefs? We have organized a project so that all of the drawing geometry are contained in several separate drawings which are xref'd into a final "plotting" drawing where dimensions and annotations are added. On...
Thanks all.
And yes, /var/mail is a symlink to /var/spool/mail - I should have seen that!
The "another fetchmail..." issue was actually my fault. In the course of setting things up I seem to have created two cron jobs to do the same thing, one at widely spaced intervals, so it only stepped on...
Hello,
I've set up a mail server for our office using RH9 with postfix right out of the box for about 20 users.
Our ISP provides a multi-drop mailbox which our server accesses via a fetchmail script run thru cron. This seem to be working OK - although every once in a while I see a message in...
Thanks for the responses!
andybrr - netstat does show port 25 open. I'm unclear on the telnet. I telnet'd to 127.0.0.1 25 and it responded with "postfix esmtp" and our virtual domain name. Did you mean to telnet to the ISP's outgoing mail server?
thanks
I'm setting up a mail server for a small office using Redhat 9. I started out wrestling w/ sendmail but after reading some postings here decided to give postfix a try.
I used the tool in RH9 to switch the default mail service from sendmail to postfix. Initial setup seemed to go ok and users on...
