One more thing, I also tried to create a top-level site by the admin site tool. I got "Top-level site created successfully", but when I click on the link to my top level site, I got the same error.
The default web did have the virtual server installed and to extend.
Also, I tried both localhost, ip address and server name to access my page and cannot access the page.
I just tried to put a test.html page in the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot directory and tried to access the page via the URL http:\\<myserver>\test.html and I got "The page cannot be found"
Is there something wrong with my IIS or just sharepoint change the default directory to somewhere else?
Thanks a lot.
I have the following under default web site of my IIS:
_layouts
_vti_bin
_wpresources
bin
images
wpcatalog
wppresources
_privet
_vti_cnf
_vti_log
_vti_pvt
_vti_script
