Aaaah SCO Xenix - my favourite - I used to compile in that up until about 5 years ago when I was forced to move to SCO Unix, but Xenix could create executables for SCO Xenix, SCO Unix and SCO Unixware in 1 executable (providing u did no op.sys stuff of course).

Lol i did better than that - I actually got SCO themselves to try it - the came and took the machine off of me and even they couldn't get it to work, but at least they tried. Not impressed at all with Dell who then refused to take the machine back even though they sold it to us on the promise...

I had the problem years ago, are you putting in a blocking factor on your tar command, ie. tar cvbf 20 /dev/.... files ... If so then remove the blocking factor cos tape drives don't need it really ...
