i had the same problem. it also mentioned that i didn't have enough rights, even though i was logged in as administrator. after the backup my log files doubled!!
we also use veritas backup software. is it possible that this interferrs with the backup?

i had a similar problem like you with a driver for a dj hp500c.
hp are quite lame and they don't supply drivers for older printers anymore. the only thing you can try is to take the win98 cd/disk, install the driver from there. it worked with my hp500c (last century) inkjet printer.
