Hi, this is what i've been doing. I've tried the netbios name and the IP address - neither work. I believe it to be a problem with the server rather than the clients - they connected to the Windows 2000 server with no problems at all.

I have a Compaq Proliant with only 1 Xeon processor and 768Mb RAM and it works very well. Extra RAM always helps but its the speed at which the disks run that is more important on a file store.

Hello, Sorry for the reply in answering This did not entirely work on its own. I did need to install the DNS service from the 2003 CD and then it worked fine. Because I switched it to DNS on the old server, the new installation worked immediately, fully integrated. Many thanks for your help T

i've got it! it's coz i hadn't got the server connected to a switch it needs to have some kind of network connectivity to install from DCPROMO, so connecting it to a switch or hub or something solved the problem
