Odd that it works the second time, it sounds like a problem with the File Association for .doc files.
Check that first.
A drastic solution might be to reinstall Word/Office which will recreate the associations.

OK I haven't written Pascal for about 10 years, do you have any clue as to what Error 160 might be?

There hadn't been any kind of upgrade unfortunately, one day it was there and the next it was gone. We actually sorted the problem in the end by backing up the users All Docs folder, then deleting and recreating the account. A bit drastic, but it did the trick.

Is this a Share or are the permissions being set on the security settings of the folder itself? It could be that Full control permissions are in place on a share, but there's a restriction on the folder itself, or vice versa.
