I take your point about specific locations i.e. Virginia/Florida but the ISP AOL is given a certain range of IP addresses based on it's location. Therefore for the most part someone dialing into AOL from anywhere in the USA will have an IP address that reflects this approximate location i.e. by...
Does anyone know a free way of finding out a users location via their IP address?
I am aware that an IP address is location based and that you can easily find out the location manually but I want to find the users location instantly.
When a user submits their details I want to be able to...
I have set up a share on one of my XP Pro boxes so that my colleague can see some required files.
The trouble is that if he tries to launch a file such as an Access DB file from within the shared folder it gives the error message:
Access cannot open this file.
This file is located outside of...
I came to this forum to ask the exact same question as pjmdesigns and have since decided to go with your suggestion of SmoothWall.
Firstly?though could you just help me out with a couple of questions?
1) I will be using a DLINK ADSL Router. Should I turn off all DHCP etc and just forward...
Surely the fact that I've tried two different hard drives, one of which is nearly brand new suggests that it's a problem with something else in the system?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Well I've just tried reinstalling Windows on the new HDD and it's given me the same error message.
Unable to install Windows on this partition. The disk maybe damaged.
This is crazy. It's a perfectly good disk and now I'm beginning to realise that the old one was perfectly ok too.
What do...
I tried the Hitachi Diagnostic test and all came back fine.
I guess I'll find out when I install the new hard drive (it's installing as I type).
The drive was definitely old and with the price of HDD's rediculously low these days a nice new fast HDD can't do any harm can it :-)
Thanks in...
Windows wasn't able to fix the problems which is why I ended up installing using the quick format.
The drive is IDE and its about 18 months old and I think its 7200 rpm.
The system is only slow on the 3D apps. The scenes are 180Mb in size which is admittedly pretty big but my point is it runs...
Could a faulty HDD be the cause of a slow system?
Whenever I use Cinema 4D to build 3D scenes my system grinds to a halt. Admittedly the scenes are fairly big but on other computers it is never as bad as on mine.
To see if it would help I formatted the system as there was a lot of unnecessary...
Can I only use the Image for computers of the same hardware spec or is there a way of doing an install, installing Office, Dreamweaver etc and then using this image for lots of different PC's with different hardware?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Well I think I found the solution. I used sendAndLoad() instead of Send().
This seems to work. If anyone knows a better way, gimme a shout.
Whenever I solve a problem on my own I'm always annoyed that I can't give myself a star [mad] , oh well never mind.
Chris
I am trying to capture some user input and submit it to a database. I can do it successfully providing I use the second argument i.e. (_parent, _self etc).
I don't want my users to suddenly be transported from the middle of a Flash movie to a _blank page etc just because they submit their...
Everyone has heard how you should secure the admin account after install etc and how you shouldn't use the Admin Account for everyday stuff but what exactly does this mean?
When I installed windows and it asked for a username (the screen with 4 or 5 text boxes to add users) I put in 'Chris'...
I am reformatting my HDD and I am getting a 'Your drive may be damaged' error message whenever I do a Full Format using NTFS. If I do a quick format it seems to be ok though.
How can I do a drive integrity check without an operating system? I assume I need to do it from a floppy disk or CD...
I have been looking into the differences between SATA and IDE and have realised that the obvious better choice is SATA.
However can someone enlighten me as to the following.
1) Do I need a motherboard with a SATA connector as the leads seem to be different or do most new Mobo's have both...
I have indeed check the Event Viewer but it doesn't seem to offer any clues at to the reason for this problem.
I'm sure its a hardware issue either CPU/Fan or HDD because its been doing it for a few months and the computer has had 3 OS's in that time. All Win XP Pro but fresh installs.
It...
If I use something like Norton Ghost to image my drive immediately after installing the OS, do the system configurations of the computers that the Image is used on need to be the same? Presumably if one computer is a laptop but the Image was taken from a PC with obviously different hardware...
Can anyone suggest a good PC health check application that I can use to monitor my hard drives and processor?
My PC is constantly shutting down and I need to establish if it is a CPU or HDD issue.
It definately isn't a Virus or software issue.
Any ideas,
Thanks in advance,
Chris
