I'm having a problem getting DOS-based programs to print from W2K after capturing the NDPS printer to LPT1:...it appears to print, but no job ever comes out of the printer, let alone show up in the queue.
Does anyone have any kind of a fix or workaround for this problem?
What we have here is a W2K networked PC, both to Novell and NT. The users are all being forced (by new security policies) to log into the domain as opposed to the workstation. For some reason, my boss asked me to figure out how to give the same settings to every user that logs in. We know how...
Does anyone have any idea if there is a way to have every user have identical settings (like the screen saver, among other things) when they log in to a W2K machine? I thought there might be a registry hack or hacks out there to accomplish this, but I can't find any info about it anywhere...
Have you ever heard of Bindview? NT/2000 based, it will tell you more about your entire network than you may want to know. There are individual snap-in modules for Inventory, Remote Control, NT/2000, Netware, etc. It's query-based...there are generic built-in queries, but you can create...
By "no password" do you mean it's a blank password, or that you don't know what it is? In either case, the Power User can log in as himself and make himself a member of the Administrator's group. Power users can create and manage LOCAL users and groups. Hope this helps you out...
OK...I thought you meant SP3 for NT...I have NO SPs running for the client...as for the protocols, I did a Custom install of the client, and just deselected stuff like Zenworks, etc., nothing special...what kind of network are you on? We have a 100Mbit/sec ethernet with kind of high-end Dells...
You might try re-installing the service pack...Microsoft says whenever you make a change to networking of any kind, you should reinstall the SP. Out of curiosity, why are you only at SP3? I have NW client 4.8 installed with SP6a and have no problems...
Hope this helps...:-)
I think if I were doing it, I'd just delete the user and his profiles and start over from scratch (like he's a new user)...my experience has been that once a user's profile gets hosed up, there's not much sense in trying to fix it (unless you have unlimited time to devote to it)...good luck...:-)
Right click on My Computer, go to Properties/Network Identification/Properties...that's the only way I know to do that...you have to rename the computer (we use the user's login name by default).
Hope this is what you meant...:-)
Go to www.roxio.com, click on Support at the top of the page, then click on Support Knowledge Base, then on Find Answers...pick your category i.e., How To...then enter "make a bootable CD" in the Search Text box...there are quite a few intersting things on that page...hope this helps...
Do you get the message no matter what disk you use to boot?
Have you tried booting from a CD (if your PC has that capability and you have a bootable CD), and if so, do you get the error then also? Do you have a Win95, 98, Me, etc. startup disk that you can boot from? Have you run scandisk on...
Are you trying to re-install after formatting the HDD or just re-installing over Win98? If Win98 is still on the machine, you can search the registry for "OEM" without the quotes...I can't remember exactly, but I believe it will show up under "Product ID" in the right pane...
Exactly what is it you're trying to do? I don't have a clue as to why anyone would want to do that... I'm just curious as I can't think of any program that would allow you to do that. :-)
Right-click on My Network Places/Properties...click Add/Protocol/Add, select Microsoft/NetBEUI...if you want to enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, do basically the same thing, only add a Service, select Microsoft, then File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. After...
Do you log in to a domain? If so, that creates a whole new profile for you on the local PC, and, in effect, takes away your admin privileges on the PC. What your IT people have to do is to add your NT domain user account to the administrator's group on the local PC...that will give you back...
I had that problem on one machine...I just uninstalled it from Add/Remove Programs/Windows Setup, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted and there it was...I seem to remember a while back someone else trying what I did but it didn't work...have no clue why...
