Finding the fix for shutdown issues with large number of mapped drives

Might be simpler than what you're looking for, but the net use command does have a switch to disconnect from a mapped drive, and I believe you can use a wildcard (*) to disconnect all at once: net use * /delete Will that one work for you?

    Fancy Shortcuts

I'll star you as well, tsuji, for moldboy's thanks and my own. That's one script I'll have to keep around, just in case. Thanks!

Change Enter Key to perform like a TAB key

What operating system do you have? With Win2k or XP: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ Freeware program called KeyTweak. Its very easy to use. If its Win95/98: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wutoys/w95kerneltoy/default.asp Windows 95 Kernal Toys has a Keyboard...

You get what you pay for

Looks like my last job as a "systems administrator"; started working there just out of high school. I had to know a little bit of everything, or at least be able to fake it long enough to learn it. And the pay was horrible; about on par with that. But I was only a systems admin in title; the...

    AMD or Intel???

Anandtech.com has a few good benchmarks of both CPUs (based on FPS in certain games). If its between the Athlon 64 3000+ and the 512K L2 cache P4, then I think the Athlon is going to have it. If its the 1MB version of the P4 3.0GHz, I think that one edges out the Athlon 64 in most places. But...

    Jump Drives

I don't know if its possible through a registry edit. But I think you should be able to change it through the disk management console (Start:Run:diskmgmt.msc). Most USB flash drives show up there. Just right click on it in the console, and there should be an option to change drive letter or...

    Windows 2000 Pricing

Non-retail copies (called OEM), are usually cheaper. Technically, they are supposed to be sold along with a computer, not just the software. The loophole: They can be sold along with any piece of computer HARDWARE. So most places that sell OEM copies throw in something like a junk used NIC...

    USB problem

Here's a link to the INtel page for the mobo model number you mentioned: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845wn/ The drivers are listed there, as well as bios updates. You also may want to check the connection for those USB ports. If it was a "home-built" system, its...

    lift your spirits

Question: When using the steel wool to clean the disc, should I wipe in a circular motion, or go from center to outer edge like with a CD? And speaking of cleaning CDs, is it safe to polish them on a high-rpm industrial buffing wheel? Gee, I wish they had Svinto in the States! [Thanks Ed-...

    windows 98 USB problem

Possibly try (with the device plugged in and showing as "unknown" in Device Manager), deleting it from the Device Manager, unplugging it, restarting, then installing the drivers, and then plugging it back in. (going with the "install drivers first" bit you did on your laptop). Only other idea...

    What is Bpfbme32.exe?

Looks like it was just a randomly-named file (meant to look like a system file of some sort); it was a self extracting archive, containing the Backdoor-AJX trojan (a keystroke logger!). I guess it was attempting to extract, but wasn't able to, and that's why the program would not close at...

    What is Bpfbme32.exe?

Have a WinXP Pro computer on our network that's been have a few problems. For the past few weeks, when the computer is shut down, a "waiting for program to close" box pops up with the above program (Bpfbme32.exe). It will close when you kill the process, but otherwise won't. I had already run...

    The right mobo

Little update here... though MSI's website (which seems to be having problems with their product pages at the moment) said the K7N2 has an S3 video processor, I found a good review at FiringSquad hardware that shows it with a GeForce4 MX chip (which makes more since, with an nVidia chipset)...

    The right mobo

I'm in definite agreement with dakota81. nForce2 chipset board is probably the way to go. I know of one board that fits all your requirements. Its also a pretty decent board: MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K7N2_Delta-ILSR&class=mb If you decide to...

    Invalid Boot.ini File

The Recovery Console actually does not allow you to copy from a disk to the harddrive or vice versa (I think they call that a "safety feature"). If, however, the file system on your dad's XP computer is still FAT32 (which is somewhat common when a computer is upgraded from Win 98/ME), rather...

De80, Which value did you mean? LMannounce? Or a different value? LMannounce was set to 0 (zero).

Master browser problem, or something else?

NETBIOS is installed, yes. MS network client is install, File/Printer sharing is install, and TCP/IP is installed. No services have been disabled. Two errors show in the event logs, the Windows Time Service one I mentioned in the previous post, and in the application log: WMI ADAP was unable...

Master browser problem, or something else?

I've been having an issue with a single Win2K client that is unable to browse the network, cannot be browsed from another client or server (computer shows up in network neighborhood, but cannot be accessed), and cannot even be pinged from any other computer on the network (using ip or hostname)...
