    query on date field

I need to query on a date field on a forms 4.5 form. This is NOT a sql query. In a sql select its easy enough to to_char the date and trim the time portion. However, I cant seem to find any way to do it on a form so I can do an oracle "form query." The query always fails to find the date even...

    connection to Crystal Reports

Download the Data Access Components from Microsoft. That will give you the ODBC drivers. Ive never been able to get the Oracle provided ODBCD driver to work.<br> <br> As stated above you have to have sql/net or Net8 installed on your client and configured correctly.<br> <br> In ODBC...

    run_product question

I currently use a front end Oracle Forms 4.5 form with buttons that use run_product to submit Reports 2.5 reports. Lets say I have three or four form letters in Reports 2.5 submitted based on a SSN parameter. I want to submit several reports with the same button, for the same employee without...

Anybody out there interested in talking about MS multitier dev issues?

This may be off the subject a bit, but Ive been working with Vb for a while and the last year or so using vb and access as a front end for Oracle databases, and some asp for providing data to web browsers and I end up spending most of my time trying to keep clients, odbc, mdac components etc...

    date range calculations

You got that right. I have trouble remembering why I did something yesterday....:)<br> <br> Having a summary table always seemed like the most practical way to handle this problem, but I couldnt get over the feeling I was taking the easy way out just to avoid having to solve the problem in sql...

    secret to developing applications

At least its not just me then. If win2000 could solve this one problem that would make it worth the upgrade. Our last workstations were NT workstation so we are better able to lock the users out of making changes, installing software etc. <br> <br> Ive done a couple "front ends" to Oracle...

    secret to developing applications

There must be a secret. Ive been working with vb since version 4 now up to 6. Ive developed several applications including a simple personnel database. But there is one problem I have not been able to overcome, either with vb or access applications. I still can not create an application that...

Access Database - 450 MB, 700000 records - Time to upgrade? To what?

It would probably pay to leverage your access/vb knowledge by upgrading to sql server. Like the post above points out you're going to run out of room in a couple years unless theres a possibility of purging old records to trim it down. You can build your front end in visual basic for an...

query that selects only the most recent record

    Linking to Oracle tables

What ODBC driver are you using? I use the standard MS Oracle ODBC driver to link Oracle8 tables in Access97 and have never had any problem. I havnt tried any of the new OleDB drivers or other methods of linking, but they might also be an option if you dl the MS MDAC components.<br> <br>

    sql submitted on timer

I found some references to dbms_job, but even in my best ref books there is no description of how to use it. It is mentioned by name but there are NO examples of how to use it. reports 2.5 performance

Fortunately in our in-house developed reports I have the source, its only in the vendor supplied forms applications I dont. How would you go about converting to ascii instead of bitmap? text file extract on timer

I need to scan a large database at least every 10 minutes to identify records that have been added that match a certain critera. implementing development environment

There are only a couple of settings you can't adjust after installing the database. Our only REAL major problem during...
