I have seen this on Release 11 with DLT IV tapes being re-used from ArcServe 2000. I find that a full inventory of the tape - as opposed to read information from database - resolves the problem.
There are other database files, asjob, asmedia etc but the biggest is the astpsdat because it contians all the session and file information of your backups. If you are going to initialise databases only initialise the astpsdat, this way you'll avoid losing everything. Check what information...
I have used ArcServe since 1996 and am currently using Release 11, which does have some very nice features. However, it still retains the VLDB which it seems is very easy to corrupt. Corrupt databases can be initialised using the Server Admin interface, but often this doesn't actually...
Does the library inventory finish OK? The reason I ask is that I avoid inventorying the entire library because it just doesn't work properly. I have a twenty slot StorageTek L40 with BrightStor Release 11 and its doesn't like mounting the entire library. My tapes are barcoded and when I need...

I have exactly the same problem on a Windows NT 4.0 SP6 server running ARCServe 2000 - the encrypt files option is greyed out. However, at my other site I have a Windows 2000 SP3 server with BrightStor ARCServe Backup version 9 which does have the option to encrypt files. In version 9 the...

Our office in Finland is using ArcServe 6.61 and is trying to merge a tape back into the database. In the activity log warnings and errors appear and the sessions fail to merge. The messages are: -
W3503 Unable to add directory to database (DIR=data, EC=-1)
E4009 Wait on object error...
