I have come to the point of total frustration in trying to discover what ails my system.
I am currently having a 'Freeze' issue if I attempt to do anything such as rip a CD or on occasions maybe something media oriented be it graphical or audio. There are other areas when this can occur and so...
An Addenda to the Windows update issue.
I must thank 'bcastner' as I solved the issue with his 'Suggestion 3'.
I did find it odd that on a fresh installation where I was Administrator I found it necessary to effectively reset all the permissions as I had no issues previously.
Having said...
Hi
On Monday 21st June having completed a full clean Reinstallation of XP Pro which included SP1, I then went to the Microsoft Update site and brought the system up to date without any issues. Yesterday (29th June), I went to the update site and checked for any more updates of which there were...
Having asked a question or two about a missing 'dll' file (Gear32PD.dll) in my own system and subsequently finding out myself what was causing this problem the following my just help someone.
It seems that this file is part of some OCR software packages that come with certain scanners. My own...
Hiya
This may seem a little vague but I feel it might be worth a look.
I had a not too dissimilar problem some time ago and discovered that within the CD drive in questions Properties(It was my Burner drive),there had appeared a ticked box which instructed the drive to be enabled for a...
My System is setup for full file access as I require full control over sll system files.
I have actually discovered what the issue is now.
When re-installing Photoshop into a fresh OS install, to save time I copied in the old plugins folder which meant that there would only re a few major...
Thank You traycee & bcastner,
I have no idea as regards Paperport but I assume it can relate to scanning software. My Scanner is a Medion which I was given and it was a real issue getting the right drivers - but very worthwhile.
When I used Photoshop in my previous Install this was never an...
I've just re-installed Photoshop CS in a new XP Pro install.
Having saved all of my extra Plugins and pasted them over, I expected some missing file errors on Loading Photoshop as some Plugins simply need re-installing but I have one error that really puzzles me as the head relates to...
An important addenda to my previous comments is 'DO NOT Install the file e+48u_update.exe after installing the basic e+48U_Full.exe as this update file will knock out the scanner completely.

I now have the Medion MD 4394 Scanner up and running thanks to 'lesgray' and 'dukeman21' was also very right - the correct driver file is 'E+ 48U'
Rather than go into a long discourse here I will simply say that if you try similar drivers that are not quite right then the right one will...
Thank you Kestral, but I did in all honesty forget to say that I had already checked with 'Driver Guide' with no luck, and the downloaded software is executed via a folder called 'Drivers'which seems that whatever is installed is either lacking or incorrect.
Can anybody assist?
I was recently given a Medion MD 4394 Scanner without the installation disc. I mailed Medion and got a reply pointing me to the right software to download for Windows XP.
The software installs ok but for whatever reason Windows XP simply cannot find a driver for this...
My thanks to 'coakerb'.
I could not believe that simply clicking the grey bar would bring the tabs back but it did!
This seems to be one of those really 'odd' XP anomalies.

It seems I have lost all the tabs on my task manager. When it's opened, the only panel I get is the programmes currently running panel.
I'm guessing that something has possibly corrupted/over written a 'dll' file or similar.
Any Ideas?

I've recently added a new slave HDD and want to move some programmes from my primary drive onto the new drive. Having searched for the appropriate software, none of them seem to state that they can simply move a programme. I briefly tried the Windows XP 'Files and Settings Transfer Wizard' but...
As many people either may not want to go into the system to turn off Messenger or for whatever reason are unable to do so, there is a very small programme that can be installed which enables the user to turn Messenger off for the session.
The programme - 'Stop Messenger Spam 1.0' can be found...
Reading dinnah1130's problem with their 'hiv' file and seeing their comment about 'boot' discs, it occurred to me to post the following information should anyone require it.
In theory at least, like many modern PC's mine should boot from disc when doing an installation. Having said that, I...
