    Two Images?

No, you're not doing anything wrong. PS4 uses tabs when you open multiple photos. It didn't really disappear, it's just on a separate tab. It's similar to multi-tabbed browsing. Happy Linux Guy http://happylinuxthoughts.blogspot.com/

Booting to an application in linux

What you're describing has already been done in specific Linux distros. It's typically called a web kiosk. Here's an example distro...... http://webconverger.com/ I believe they use google chrome instead of firefox. Debiosk is another distro with the same idea in mind. Happy Linux Guy...

Connecting to Samba domain member using WinXP errors

Have you actually gone through the process of joining the domain on the XP system? From your description, it sounds like you've only joined the domain with the Debian and RHEL systems. Happy Linux Guy http://happylinuxthoughts.blogspot.com/

    Linux on Compaq Presario 2230

Tinkering on old hardware is fun until you realize you can get a system these days with 100 times the power of the old system for around $300. And these new systems typically just work on Linux and you can mess around with functionality rather than busting your butt just trying to make things...

    Virtualised Citrix boxes

No. It's perfectly acceptable to assign multiple cpus per VM. Happy Linux Guy http://happylinuxthoughts.blogspot.com/

    Number of CPU cores

I use "cat /proc/cpuinfo". This shows you a lot more info on the cpu, and it gives a count on the processors starting at 0. Sample output............ processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 11 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU...

    umount before reboot/shutdown?

Most likely, if you're mounting the san storage on a permanent basis, you should be doing it with /etc/fstab. If you're not, you should change it. It will automatically unmount it at shutdown, and you won't have to worry about additional scripts.

    "Root logins are not allowed"

It's not just kde that doesn't allow this. It's standard practice in a lot of distributions now. Really, it's to discourage users from logging in as root, for sake of convenience. It's a pretty bad security risk browsing the internet or doing anything else always being root. The standard way...

    acpi=off problem in FC3

What about Fedora 8? 9 is going to be released very soon, or s already released. I'm pretty sure they have more drivers in the latest than in the older release.

    Dual processor support

Yes, the latest Ubuntu easily supports multi-processor systems. It's even able to scale back to 1Ghz to save power when the processors are idle.

    madwifi + access points

Install network manager for either gnome or kde, and it will show an icon by the clock where you can select which network you're connecting to.

Installing Samsung Bixolon printer in SuSE 10

Try the samsung website. I know they have linux driver support for their other printers.

    Mount Blank DVD on WS3

Wouldn't it be much easier to just use the native linux software to burn DVD's? Is there a reason you need to do it on Windows instead?

    OUTLOOK 2003, OUTBOX, STUCK MESSAGE

I have a message stuck in my outbox, and it's clogging up the whole send process. Sometimes other messages won't send, sometimes they just take a long time. The message has a 4MB attatchment, and I cant delete it because it says "send already in progress" I can't move it for the same...

    MSN MESSENGER CONTACT LIST ICONS

I found out what the REAL problem was. Norton utitlities was causing the problem. The icons got corrupted somehow, and norton was protecting the files or something so it couldn't refresh itself or anything. I uninstalled norton utilities and everything went back to normal.

Also, one other program, Kazaa has the same type of icon corruption. It seems to be somehow related.

    Outlook Express

In XP, you can set up windows users accounts for each person using the computer, and it keeps all your settings separate. So, if you logged on with your user account and opened outlook express, all you will see is your email. I believe you can do that it windows ME also, but im not sure
