oh, and I'm sorry. Designer: One who creates art/type/layout,.... Creates all kinds of illustrator blends, freehand lens effects, spot to process gradients,... Printer: One who deals with and creates art/type/layout,... Does workarounds to get all kinds of illustrator blends, freehand lens...

Change PSD to TIF before prepress?

Thank you Genimuse for you contribution. And yes Jimoblak, pdf's do make our work a lot easier. The only problems I've encountered are problems with the way they are created (ie: not all fonts embedding, no bleeds, downsampling, wrong color spaces). They also stop dead any concept of color...

    Mac's accessing Win2K File Server

In OS X, you have to mount the drives, then go to system prefs>login items. Then you can drag and drop the mounted server into the login items window. Make sure the check box is clicked, and it will mount on restart.

Change PSD to TIF before prepress?

jimo... While I realize the incredible value of designers, and even prepress techs having access to desktop proofers, surely you, as a former printshop worker, should realize that when you are going to film or direct to plate, you have to export from the native application that will pass through...

    Printing promblems when using Shadows/Transparency

If your printer is in an eps workflow, they need to embed all images, and set the transparancy flattener to maximum. This should solve most white box issues, as long as they are using a postscript level 3 rip. As far as the pdf, it must be created with acrobat (distiller) 5, version 4 doesn't...

Change PSD to TIF before prepress?

I'm sorry Jim, Tim... But Indesign isn't all your saying it's cracked up to be! As a desktop tech in a full fledged, up to date prepress environment I've seen more than my share of problems with indesign. Whether it be linked psd's, ai's, font embedding, etc. Yes, you can get some native file...
