Question about pagefile requirements on secondary drive.

Ok. So I have chkdsk /r in Recovery Console.. It finds a bunch of errors and fixes them. The machine seems to be operating MUCH faster and smoother. The prob is, when I run chkdsk again in read-only mode it gives more errors. No matter how many times I run it... But, things seem to be getting...

Question about pagefile requirements on secondary drive.

Ok, so I have done extensive work to get this machine up to speed and as it turns out I may have errors on my c: I try and chkdsk and I get the famous "Cannot open volume for direct access" error for which MS acknowledges, but has no fix...

Question about pagefile requirements on secondary drive.

I have tried all of the solutions offered here. I can most definately see a performance increase, but it is coming at a cost. As my secondary drive is also used for file storage (approx. 60%) and is not dedicated to pagefile alone, I don't think that the solution of putting my pagefile on this...

Question about pagefile requirements on secondary drive.

Thanks for that info.. I gave it a try as it made sense, however I seem to see a trade off in performance. While some things appear to work more smoothly, others are considerably slower. With my pagefile set to my secondary drive, the PC seems to freeze occasionally. Everything just hangs. I...

Question about pagefile requirements on secondary drive.

Does anyone know if a pagefile is needed for a secondary drive. This drive is just being used to store mp3s and such. I would assume that having a pagefile on C: should be enough. Is this correct? Thanks in advance. Pete

Disable SMB polling on NT 4.0

Terry712, Thanks for the reply. There is another user in our datacenter that has complained that our box is scanning their machines and filling up their logs. We have closed all NETBIOS (and other uneccessary ports) to the outside of the datacenter, but it is constantly scanning internally. P

Disable SMB polling on NT 4.0

I have an issue where my NT 4.0 server is continually polling the subnet for other servers. This is apparently a default setting. I have searched Technet with no success. Does anyone have an idea how to disable SMB polling in NT 4? Thanks in advance. P

All new windows opening maximized (IE6, XP Pro)

Ok. You are not going to believe this. I figured it out. After 3 days of figting with it, I got to thinking about other installed apps that may be controlling the browser size. I run 2 monitors, and I use a program from ATI called Hydravision. Somehow, it seems that HydraVision Desktop Loader...

All new windows opening maximized (IE6, XP Pro)

Those were great suggestions, and I tried them, however still no result. I did notice something that I had never noticed before though. The subsequent windows are exactly the same size as the parent window. I am beginning to wonder if there is something in the registry that forces IE to open all...

All new windows opening maximized (IE6, XP Pro)

Ok, this is driving me crazy now. All my new windows are opening maximized (pop-ups, links that open _blank, etc.) I have tried to resize 1 browser window and close it, I have looked in the registry for a solution. No success. This is annoying to say the least, especially when you are using a...
