Here is an extract of the config ( i'm not going to post it all )
The server is a proxy server which we translate from a dmz network on a 192.168.8.21 address to a routeable 10.120.0.121 address on our WAN.
When connecting to this server from the WAN interface with 10.120.0.121 it works fine...
We've got a strange DNS rewrite issue, we are upgrading from pix 6.3 firewalls ( old 515e's ) to new Cisco ASA 5540
running 7.08.
We've used the DNS rewrite function of the pix for years and its worked no problem ( essentially appended dns to the end of static ) and having the default fixup...
This particular DMZ faces our managed wide area network, we offer regional services to some of other sites from this dmz. The current plan is to use a NAs to replace file servers that are based both in our internal network and this our DMZ that offers services to our regions.
Were are in the early stages of deploying a new NAS solution, which will essentially front our SAN disk storage.
As it traditional at this point the issue of connecting the NAS into both the internal and dmz networks comes into play. While they will use different LAN interfaces for each...
I know its not exactly a technical question...
But does anyone know of any companies that may be in need of a network engineer with experience of Extreme Black Diamonds and Cisco in the near future ??
Cant say I have we use BIG IP 3DNS to do our load balacing
so its a feature of the extreme we never use.
By the way what company do you work for, if you don't mind me asking
I've seen this myself on ESRP, and vrrp, i think its one of two things
dhcp relies on the address of the router it passes through to understand which scope/pool to assign the address out of, its possible its getting confused over the router address, usually you have to specify the router...
Did the backplane stiffener improve matters ??
According to Extreme we shouldn't need to fit them as our boxes were made after they discovered this problem.
Its something we should probably do anyway, but as my companies about to sell us all down the river, I'm less inclined to do this piece of...
Just thought I'd update you guys with what I've done on this fella, basically we had a couple more strange recoccurences of the problem, Extreme came back with several solutions:-
In the end decided th swap out the card with a replacement, this card demonstrated the same problems within mins of...
Its a very wierd problem, no changes made to the switch recently, very plain jane networking involved no esrp etc.
Networks nicely subnetted, no broadcast storms, just several ports on one blade failing to pass traffic. You can see the MAC address in the fdb, all the rest of the cards and ports...
Anyone else experienced lock up problems on the gig cards on the extremes ( in our case a G12SXi the MTRJ one) card will stop forwarding traffic to ports, but you can still resolve the mac address to the correct port. Reseting the offeding slot fixes the problem, but its a bit wierd ??
Yeah had some problems with MTRJ gig cards, build quality on the cards can be a problem.. ports occasionally being too small for the connectors ! Also had some fun, with SUN and IBM boxes trying to connect to MTRJ gig, sometimes they just dont want to connect, plug them into SC and they work...
You want to cover your basics first.
Make sure your not overloading the line check the interfaces to see if your using all your bandwidth.
Check for errors, see if your getting any frame errors.
Does this happen at certain, times... only during the working day ( in which its likely to be...
Yeah, it is a career path thing, although it is possible to do both, its usually best to concentrate on one field.
Depends on what you prefer to do, I think an MCSE should always see get a job somewhere ( although the pay rates may not be gob smacking) networking ( and the CCNP route ) can be a...
I'd echo most of the above... build quality can be a bit dodgy. Code occassionally buggy, but in general they're very solid boxes. A lot cheaper than cisco though,
when we looked at buying ours we compared cisco 6509 / alcatel omnicore and the extreme black diamond. Personaly I wanted to go...
