We are running XP Pro on brand new workstations with 512mb or RAM and a 2+ ghz processor. The systems have around 30gb of hard disk space.
I have today installed an Epson Perfection 1640SU scanner, using USB cable. The scanner was picked up and install ok by XP Pro.
However the problems...
Hi Geoff and thanks for your advice.

Hello people, really appreciate any help that can be given here, this one is quite urgent here where I work.
Recently we have upgraded to Windows XP Pro & Office 2003.
One of our users gets a message when she tries to run macros which says:
Macros are disabled as security levels are set too...
D'oh. Sorry. To be honest, once I read the initial bits of your first reply I went straight to my boss cos I realised the potential seriousness of it. Didn't realise the fix was included - but forgive me - there is REAMS of stuff! (And it is Friday afternoon).
Anyway - thanks for your...
Argh - sunshine...it hurts after being under this rock for so long ;-)
However, we are protected against sasser and just to make sure, I've run the Microsoft test and that confirms the pc is clear.
Since then, I have been handed an apparant fix for my problem, the information is as follows...
Hi there.
Our XP Pro systems are set NOT to restart whenever there is a system failure(via Control Panel - System - Adavanced - Start Up & Recovery options) however we have one recurring problem.
Headed "System Shutdown", we get a message saying:
Shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM...
Does anyone out there know if there is a limit to the amount of workbooks you can have open in Excel (97)?
This may be just a limit on the number of workbooks or a maximum amount of memory that is being used.
BTW: This is on an NT4 platform - the pc has 128mb of RAM.

Also....to elaborate on the document being unreadable once copied to troublesome network drive from elsewhere is:
There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost"
<So not actually corrupt & unreadable really!>

Hi there.
We have a user (on NT4 o/s) using Word 97.
When she tries to save her document, no matter how simple (i.e. a blank document with the file name test.doc) to a specific network drive, she gets a message to say:
This is not a valid file name. Check one of the following:
- Check the...
Thanks for responding ianicr,
I did have a look through Internet Explorer settings but again, didn't find anything appropriate.
HOWEVER, I did find something advice-wise days ago saying if the security option (within Internet Options - Advanced) "do not save encrypted pages to disk" is...
Thanks for responding. However I don't see such an option within My Computer - Properties.
If you have any more advice on how to navigate to this option that'd be great.

Hi there. I am new to XP Pro and can't find where to turn off warning prompts.
For example, I have a user who prints with Crystal 9...and constantly gets a prompt asking if this is a trusted source. There is no check box to tick to say "Don't ask me this again."
I also get a warning message...
It's any attachment at all, even tiny ones.
There aren't too many services running in the background - just standard required NT services for a workstation plus Sophos.
Thanks.

Hi there.
I have a user, using Outlook 2000 on NT 4.0 platform.
<Outlook is set up for corporate use.>
Recently the user changed from a laptop user to a desktop user and her profile & Outlook account were adjusted accordingly. She is using a Fujitsu Scenic Xs with plenty of virtual memory...
Thanks for that. If you happen to hear of anything, would appreciate a post on here. Of course I will keep a watch for it too on MS website also.
Appreciate your time & effort today.

Hi. We have some new XP Pro users but our PDC and profile storage server is still running on NT Server.
Most XP people are running ok and logging off ok.
However one user gets an error message everytime she logs off or shuts down fully.
The message says the usrclass.dat.log file either has...
