It may still be the battery, The 390 is a pretty old model, if you bought a 'new' battery that has been sitting on the shelf unused for several years it could be failed regardless. Does a meter check on the battery contacts give any voltage readings ?
( 390 was about the 3rd laptop fleet buy we...
Has the Power Supply got a fan ? If so does this spin up ?
If it doesn't I'd suspect the PS as first option.
Have you done a voltage check on the output pins of it, ie stuck a meter across the DC volts pins. No volts = no go.
If voltages are ok then your mobo is next likely culprit.
If it fails consistently at that point (52%) then I'd say your drive has some bad sectors and is highly likely to be about to crash. Easy fix, get a new one, she's about to go.
Relax, go with the flow, sounds like they want more in depth from you and/or are assessing how you would personally fit. Thats very promising. There may be some test, OPQ or whatever, just be honest with it, don't try to be 'clever'. Listen for the clues that let you follow their line of...
Lot of the early Compaqs have pull out strips at either (or both ) top and bottom of keyboard. They look like moulded strips in the wrist rest with a small groove where tehe dge is. Small screwdriver applied carefully at either end will indicate whether this is a cover strip which when pulled up...
I'm no whizz kid but I've struck this before on W2k installs when I've logged on as another user ( admin ) after installing Office 2000 on new laptops. OS seesm to see this as a new install and tries to complete for that user, ie in another user environment. Seems to come from the restart after...
I'm back !!
Conclusion:
After reimaging the laptop the problem has dissappeared completely so sorry I am unable to shed any more light on a possible cause/cure for this particular scenario.
A possiblity may have been in the original sw load because I had another TE2100 that had problems...

Hi guys,
Yes I have searched the FAQ's and doesn't help with my problem.
This is on a new Tosh TE2100 laptop loaded with W2000 from the supplied image CD Rom. Able to boot up (in most cases ) but especially if it goes into screensaver mode or just after sitting with desktop up the BSOD appears...
They seem to work for me, std mscdex driver gets me to the point where I can load OS from CDRom. Laptop will normally find or look for an 'updated' driver when the OS is installed.
Create a W98 startup floppy disk and it should offer option to boot with CDRom support when you use it, normally...
Dreamland, thanks for detailed reply.
Power On & Esc works for TE2000 so checked and resaved that.
Date has been holding Ok but maybe battery is marginal so CMOS might be a bit more sensitive to that. I can't have it flaky, it is an engineering support laptop so has to go 100%.
I'll recheck the...
Dreamland, thanx for reply.
Motherboard was replaced by Tosh Service agent, supposedly new so battery should not be a issue ( supposedly !! )
If you power off then restart quite often the error does not occur but if you leave it overnight powered off for sure next morninig at bootup it...
Can anyone shed some light on a problem I have with a Toshiba TE2000 laptop. The motherboard has been replaced after a comms port problem and now if the laptop is left overnight at Power on it starts initial boot sequence but then comes up with
EXCEPTION ERROR
Selector =0048H

Thanks Manarth,
Loaded ZoneAlarm 3.7 which does have some capability against bots, primarily because it detects Port access from both sides and you can monitor/stop them Also loaded Spybot and ran that to see what was hiding in my PC ( after the IE reinstall and cache clearing ) Not much found...
Ok, managed to fix my own problem by uninstalling IE 6 then reinstalling. Got my Toolbars back but then had to reset them all back the way I like them. Didn't lose any info or other settings.
Still like to know if there is any other way to fix this problem without reinstalling but going to add...
Some damn poxy website appears to have removed my abilty to access the toolbars on IE6 running on W2K.
There is no menu or anything at all at the top and seems to be no way to restore them. Right mouse click does not give any menu from either the blue header or page body and Alt + V does not...
