Hello. Windows XP Pro SP1 will not allow me to install this hp deskjet 3520. I tried the install disk, and at the very end of the installation process, as it's going through it's various "installation phases" (ie registering new components, blah blah...) it says "rolling back action" and ends...
We use an hp 5500 here...it's really good with photos (but not as good as a cheap inkjet, imo, but it will print a nice 8x10 picture in about 10 seconds, as opposed to 5 minutes on an inkjet) Prints fast, ethernet connection, etc...only drawback is the price of the toner! 300 bucks x 4 = tons...
Word is not being used to render for print. The paper size has never been set differently (always 8.5 x 11)...I think I'll try uninstalling some software to see if that helps. Thanks for all your posts.

"This is controlled by your printer properties in the settings for the printers. Go to Settings Printers and check out what your property settings are."
This doesn't help. Thanks anyway.
Drivers are up to date. This problem has happened with 2 separate...
Hi. Whenever I go to print something, whether through the printer wizard or a separate program, the "framing" of the document or picture is off...instead of a nice 1/4" border, the "printable area" window (ie, print preview) is misplaced, so that I have maybe 1/8" at the top, and 1/2" at the...
Well, at this point I would look into any conflicts with CD software (burning software especially). I recently had a problem with my CD RW shutting the comp down when a blank CD-R was inserted...only difference here is that my burner could read data CD's no problem. Just search the thread...
Righteous. No, re-installing software is not such a big deal, but if you knew what I've been through during this petite crisis, well, you'd probably wish you'd never modified the original factory settings of your comp in the first place. Honestly, I don't know why we bought a factory made...
Alrighty gang, good news. Uninstalled Nero and Alcohol. Reconnected. Comp recognized new drive. No shut off, no problems. My guess is that maybe there was a conflict between the two programs...but i don't know. So there we have it. So should I go ahead and re-install Nero? I might as...
Well, I have to say, the RAM was initially one of the points I looked at...I did uremove the RAM, then rebooted, with the same result. Comp shut off...grey screen of death (XP pro, remember--no info till manual [hard] or automatic reboot, which points to the same error message as per 1st...
There's really nothing in the control panel that allows me to simply use the black cartridge...unless you're referring to the color management options which let you specify 4 color or black only, in which case, yes, i've set them all to print black only..all to no avail. I just think that the...
Thanks. Maybe my understanding is off here. I thought the found new hardware wizard would detect the device then install the drivers for it automatically, but maybe not. Anyway, I'll get rid of NERO then try it...I'll keep you posted.

Well, it's Windows XP pro. Initially, with the old burner, I uninstalled the driver for that burner, then rebooted. When windows detected new hardware, the computer shut off in the same way it did when inserting a blank disc. After installing a new burner, when windows detected the new...
Okay, so I swapped CD-RW's and when windows booted and attempted to install drivers for the new CD RW the comp shut off again, same deal as before...so it must be a software issue. Is there any way around a re-installation of windows?

Yes, as I say, I have set the density to the highest setting. BUT...After talking with HP tech support for a considerable length of time, I have discovered that there is no way around this issue...the toner used in this printer does not print as dense colors as previous models, in an attempt to...
Hi...we usually use the 1100 for printing good deep blacks for making film positives, but larger jobs call for the 5500--I've noticed that the 5500 prints blacks with low density...in other words, not very opaque(we print to a vellum-like material that is semi-transparent...kinda foggy)...and we...
