the problem of no sound has been solved ! it was because the volume bar in winamp had been turned down to zero. increasing the volume in winamp bought back the volume. thanks to everyone for their help.- sarveshm

yes, i have checked the volume controls, speaker jack, device driver properties. i'm pretty sure that its a problem with the sound card, only i dont know how to confirm this. any suggestions?- sarveshm
