    In fact, I could try swapping the circuit boards over first, that'd probably make more sense! Didn't think of that! I think it's a problem with the circuit board as I think windows and even bios just stopped detecting it one day.

    Why not just zip the files? The browser should prompt for download then. If you need to zip on the fly, there are PHP scripts available to do that.

    I've tried Microsoft's idea but the computer restarts whenever I select safe mode. I know someone who has a WinXP home disc. Will this do the job and allow me to repair or must it be a pro disc?
