Have you tried to log onto the server as the user that is backing up exchange and tried to use exchange administrator?? If you could do this then that would at least tell you if permissions were correct for the user....So much to check, it is kinda hard to figure out where to start....
The first thing I would check if backing up through the network is to make sure you are using the manufacturer drivers for the network cards. Once that is done manually set the card and the switch to the fastest allowable speed, preferably 100 full duplex or gigabit. If this doesn't help and you...
The filter section at the top is a global filter. In the job detail you can specify filters and this would be for using the windows agent to back up a remote server and it would look at these filters as being local to each machine if using the backup agent. Does this make sense??
