    With the Hard Drive.. have you tried an overlay program?? like EZ BIOS??? or some other... Check out the hard drive manufacturer's website for an overlay program (usually free)... for the BIOS issue... try remove the battery for 15 secs.. then re-install it...

    Personally - I would try a low-level, then FDISK and then Format... Once that is done - use a hard drive utility to test the drive/s IBM and Seanix both have good free hard drive utilities at their sites...

    Quick check when this happens is to make sure the video card is pushed all the way in... If it is not all the way in.. it will cause the system not to run (yet indicator lights and fans are working)... the cable from the monitor to the card may also be stretching... so if you move the monitor...

    I would check the keyboard and mouse ports first... someone may have forced the connectors in and bent the pins causing them to touch.... this would be enough to short the system... especially while it is booting up... or if it had already booted up but while it is in use...
