After pentium, All CPUs support cpuid instruction to recognize the CPU, CPU vendor, Family , Model, Stepping, and CPU features. See the documentation of CPUID instruction.

I have read in a article that the hardisk can be operating in one of two modes ( CHS, LBA )
CHS - Cylynder Head Sector Addressing
But I dont know even basics about LBA? What is LBA?

Hai
I have got the Ralf Browns Interrupt list. And I saw the Int 41h. The vector does not point a routine. It points a table. The table has info about the number of cylynders, number of heads etc. It does not have info related to the size.
And one more thing. The BIOS only has to the fill...
Hai,
Where the OS get the info? I am using DOS.. BIOS has the responsiblity to detect the Harddisk and give the size to OS. So that the OS can format the harddisk.. How BIOS get the info

Hai All,
How the BIOS knows the size of a unformatted Harddisk? Is there any data area in Hard disk itself which stores the size of hte Harddisk...

Hai All ,
I am having a basic doubt in Harddisk Sizing. When a new Harddisk is connected to the computer, How the size of the Harddisk is calculated? Or the size of the Harddisk is stored anywhere in the Harddisk itself..
