    This can be done through Regedit - right click and alter the permissions from there - back up your Registry first though.

    Take out the CDROM, battery and any other peripherals - see if it won't boot then. I would doubt that the CMOS battery has died a death - though I could be wrong. But this link may help...

    Update: I've managed to low-level format the 3 drives from a different server.... is there any likelihood of not being able to boot up from Smartstart now?
