I've had a look through the groups and found helpful hints but nothing as yet that can solve this very weird problem I have at home.
I have three machines labelled
1. M1 - Win XP with a recent install of SP2 Connected directly to my Netgear router.

I do believe there's a mysql ini file on the server that needs to be edited to allow connections from remote hosts. I can't remember the specifics of this but you should be able to get some more information on this via the MySQL forums.
