The 10.1 clients are VERY VERY buggy. I wouldn't use them at all yet.
I have noticed that if you install 10.0 and then upgrade to 10.1 alot of the bugs in 10.1 aren't there. One such bug is the pass through authentication. It wouldn't work on a clean install of 10.1 but upon an upgrade it...
The folders in which you place the applications in the Access Management Console are used for the administrative management of the applications only. You can assign permissions to specific adminsitrators to specific folders.
To place applications in the folders for the users, right click the...
When you add storage groups you increase system resource utilization more so than if you add stores to an existing storage group. 2 SGs with 1 store each uses more memory and creates more threads than 1 SG with 2 stores.
You create 1 set of transaction logs per SG. If you go creating multiple...
Exchange defrag will take a long time too on an IS that is that big.
Turn on indexing on the information store if you're worried about search times.
If you are concerned about the size of a single store getting too big then create more stores and move mailboxes to them. And to that end you...
Last night I was trying to resolve a mailbox name but it wouldn't resolve. I kept getting the same error that andyoye is having. I typed an ambiguous part of the mailbox name so that Outlook would give me a list to select from. I chose the mailbox (Which for some reason had a space in it) and...
Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server require NetBIOS name resolution for full functionality" (support.microsoft.com)

Just an FYI, Exchange 200x does require WINS, although it might not be for the problem you are experiencing.
At any rate...
You could do the second option and then open the second mailbox in the same outlook profile. That way no emails would be missed because Outlook was closed.

One thing I noticed is don't put a space after the exchange server name. It will try to resolve it with the space and fail. Same for the mailbox.

You can also use third party tools. We are currently doing an Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 migration using Quest EMW. For Exchange 200x to Exchange 200x you would use QMM.
EMW = Exchange Migration Wizard
QMM = Quest Migration Manager

I see why this can be a concern. If I have two addresses on my account Steve@123.com and Steve@456.com, I might want to know which address it was sent to because I might only give my 456 address to clients and my 123 address to people in IT.
Right click on the name in Outlook. It will drop down...
if you don't have a router and can't get to the outside world you won't have a default gateway. I would change it to some random address as a test.
Install WINS onto the DC and register the Exchange server on it using nbtstat -RR. Add the WINS server to the workstation so it can resolve the...
well, when you change user names and all that it doesn't change the "name" property in AD which (consequently) is the name that is displayed in ADUC. So, if you change my login id from SteveMCSE to SteveMCSEMarried and change my firstname and lastname and display name and email address and all...
I notice this too. It seems like if I wake the computer up Exchange comes back to life. I am running Exchange and AD on a single VPC now. They were on two different VPCs and had this problem even more frequently. Now it still happens, but not as much. I don't think it's the computer falling...
I strongly recommend against running ANY tool that deletes other people's email. Even if you are an Admin it's not up to you to decide what email gets deleted. Those messages are the users' messages not the Admins. Ultimately they belong to the company. If you run Mailbox Manager it can be very...

Um, we have 11 sites each with a server and we set up pf repl to the HQ site. If I remember correctly setting that attribute (replicate) on a top level doesn't always propagate down to sub-folders (if you check the box to do it you can overwrite permissions set at lower levels - not good). Use...
You definitely do not want to do that, and I think it's not supported. If you were able to get it to work (which I seriously doubt) You would run into huge performance issues. Consider every time an email comes into the server the data will have to go back out of the nic to the server with the...
It is the display name that you want to change. All that other stuff doesn't show up in the GAL. Only the display name. That's under the General Tab.

Next time this happens restart (or just simply stop) the trendmicro scanmail services. We use an older version of that software on our Exchange 5.5 servers and every now and again is will break and Exchange stops sending msgs. Just try it as a troublshooting step. If it works you know where the...
