Here is an alternative:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Choose the columns you would like to see (Go to: View -> Choose Columns).
3. Set the columns as you like (Column-width, sort-order)
4. Set other folder options - go to: Tools -> Folder Options
(A) On the General tab, set 'Use Windows...
Have you recently installed something that is not for Windows2000?
Installing the correct version of that application should solve the problem.
Can also try this:
1. Try starting Windows in Safe-Mode, then back in normal mode, and see if it solves the problem.

You need to be able to boot from a CD-ROM.
1. Make sure your PC is set to boot from a CD. Check the BIOS for the boot-sequence - the CD-ROM should be showing, and before the Hard-disk (IDE).
2. Make sure you can boot from this CD (try on another PC).
